WASHINGTON -- After getting pummeled by Washington in two straight games, the Texas Rangers were eager to stop the Nationals seemingly interminable parade around the bases. Yu Darvish gave the Rangers just what they needed to avert a humbling sweep. Darvish struck out 12 over eight innings, Leonys Martin broke open a scoreless duel with a homer in the seventh and Texas secured a 2-0 victory Sunday. The Rangers won despite losing an apparent run in a rare double challenge on the same play. Managers Ron Washington of Texas and Matt Williams lodged separate complaints after a double steal in the first inning. Pitching for the first time since May 22 after missing his last turn with a stiff neck, Darvish (5-2) gave up five hits and walked two in dropping his ERA to 2.08. The right-hander matched his season high in strikeouts and overpowered a club that won 9-2 on Friday and 10-2 Saturday. "That team for two days just swung the bats at will, threw the ball around the ballpark, out of the ballpark," Washington said. "We certainly needed to try to slow them down, and (Darvish) did that. He slowed them down. Yu was good today. He was very good. When the team needed him to be very good, he was." Joakim Soria worked a perfect ninth to earn his 11th save and seal Texas major league-leading 11th shutout. Darvish struck out the side in the second and fanned two in each of the next three innings before encountering trouble in the sixth. One-out singles by Jayson Werth and Adam LaRoche put runners at first and third before Darvish struck out Wilson Ramos and retired Ian Desmond on a deep fly to right field. Darvish yielded a two-out walk in the seventh and left after a 1-2-3 eighth. "We just needed Yu to pitch well," Washington said, "and he pitched well." Darvish was worried that neck stiffness might be a problem, but it obviously didnt turn out to be an issue. "Last night before I went to bed, I was very scared to wake up with a neck injury so I probably woke up 20 times," he said through a translator. "But I didnt have any pain when I woke up this morning." Darvish got the only run he needed when Martin hit an 0-1 pitch from Tanner Roark (3-4) into the Washington bullpen beyond the right-field wall. It was his third home run in 183 at-bats this season and ended the Rangers run of homerless games at six. Roark allowed only one run and seven hits in seven innings but lost his third straight start. "He made one mistake to Martin, a changeup that was up in the strike zone," Williams said. "Other than that, he matched him perfectly." Roark has lost three straight starts but owns a 3.25 ERA and has allowed only eight earned runs over his last 32 2-3 innings. In this one, he kept the Rangers at bay until Martin connected. "It was just a bad changeup. It was up and I didnt throw it with conviction," Roark said. "Thats how its been the past couple games, just one pitch." Donnie Murphy added an RBI single off Drew Storen in the eighth. Murphy had a season-high three hits and was flawless in his first career game at first base. "Hes a pro," Washington said of Murphy. "Every time he goes out there he does something for us." In the first inning, both managers talked to the umpires. With two outs and runners on the corners, Elvis Andrus and Alex Rios executed a double steal. Rios was called out for coming off second base after the steal, but umpires ruled Andrus crossed the plate before the tag. The Texas manager challenged the call at second and Williams insisted the out occurred before Andrus crossed the plate. After replays were reviewed over a span of 2 minutes, 45 seconds, Texas lost its challenge and the Nationals assertion was confirmed. "I might have reacted too soon," Washington acknowledged. "I should have waited until the first inning was over and I would have had my challenge. I was just trying to protect myself." In the bottom half, Ramos looked at a third strike with two outs and runners at first and third. It was the first of five straight strikeouts for Darvish. Julien coached the Bruins to the Stanley Cup championship in 2010-11 and is the longest serving coach in consecutive seasons in the teams history. Claude is one of the top coaches in the NHL and has consistently shown a passion for winning, general manager Peter Chiarelli said Sunday in announcing the signing. Joe Corona Jersey . -- Even as Chris Paul remained evasive about his future, he did what team leaders are expected to do. http://www.soccerusafansshop.com/Darling...America-Jersey/. -- Martin Kaymer never lost sight of opportunity even amid so much evidence of trouble in the closing stretch Sunday at The Players Championship. Jorge Villafana Jersey . "Im very pleased to be able to add a quarterback with Adrians experience and skill set," Calgary head coach and general manager John Hufnagel said in a statement. Andrija Novakovich Jersey TAMPA, Fla. - Mike Glennon is getting another opportunity to prove he is Tampa Bays quarterback of the future. With starter Josh McCown unlikely to play this week against Pittsburgh, the second-year backup practiced with the No. 1 offence Wednesday in preparation for the Steelers. Its the second straight season Glennon has been thrust into the starting lineup following an 0-3 start, although the circumstances are different this time.McCown sprained the thumb on his throwing hand during last Thursdays 56-14 loss at Atlanta. As a rookie a year ago, Glennon came off the bench after Josh Freeman struggled and fell out of favour with former coach Greg Schiano. Its always a huge opportunity when you get to play a game in the NFL, said Glennon, who started 13 games as a rookie, going 4-9 while completing 59 per cent of his passes for 2,608 yards, 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions.I didnt know what to expect then. I know what its like to play now, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound quarterback added of the difference between this time a year ago and now. Im a lot more confident, a lot more comfortable. As usual, coach Lovie Smith had little to say about injuries and possible lineup changes, including who will lead the offence against Pittsburgh (2-1).Its a good chance it will be Mike Glennon. Josh is improving, the coach said. I like to stay with my standard way of doing things, not talking about starting lineups for the opponent. But Mike took the reps today. Hows that?Glennon relieved McCown late in the second quarter against the Falcons, completing 17 of 24 passes for 121 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. Atlanta sacked him once.Smith, who replaced Schiano in January and two months later signed McCown to a two-year, $10 million contract in free agency, felt Glennon played well considering the young backup didnt work with the starting lineup during a short week of preparation leading up to last Thursdays game.Steelers coach Mike Tomlin also likes what hes seen of the 2013 third-round draft pick, who a year ago became the first rookie in NFL history to throw for a touchdown in his first eight starts.Im just starting to familiarize myself with him. ... Weve got to respect those 13 games he started a yeear ago.dddddddddddd Im sure its going to serve him well as he moves forward, Tomlin said. Im sure hes excited about playing. Im sure hes got a different perspective on this opportunity after losing the starting job at the end of 2013.Glennon was disappointed when McCown, a career backup coming off his best pro season in Chicago, was signed and immediately named the starter. But instead of sulking or complaining, he quietly went about his business in the off-season, training camp and first three weeks of the regular season.Mike is not fazed by much. Hes just going to stay the course and do what he has to do, team captain Gerald McCoy said.He went through a storm last year. A lot of rookies, they get thrown in on opening day, so you have a chance to start from the beginning, McCoy added. He got thrown into a circus.Indeed, Glennon was pressed into action as a rookie after Freeman, a first-round draft pick in 2009, was benched after a tumultuous preseason and slow start that set the tone for the Bucs missing the playoffs for the sixth straight season. With Glennon running the offence, the Bucs finished 30th in scoring and dead last in passing and total yardage.Im just focused on getting our first win. Thats where my mind-set is at, to go out there and get a win and help the team any way I can, the 24-year-old quarterback said, adding theres not much difference in the circumstances of his moving into the lineup. He said, 0-3 is 0-3, however you look at it. My mind-set last year and my mind-set this year is to stay the course and get that first tin. Once you get that first win, things kind of get rolling.Tampa Bay lost eight in a row to begin 2013, won four of five, then finished on a three-game losing streak that led to the firing of Schiano and former general manager Mark Dominik.Smith believes playing behind McCown and being around the 12th-year pro in the off-season and training camp has aided Glennons development. What Ive seen is a team player, a veteran on how hes handled the situation. Mike comes to work every day preparing, Smith said. This has only helped him and prepare him for this situation. Hes ready to go.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFLCheap Barcelona JerseysCheap Real Madrid Jerseys AuthenticCheap Bayern Munich JerseysCheap Dortmund JerseysCheap USA JerseysCheap USWNT JerseysFrance Soccer JerseysSoccer Mexico JerseysCheap Germany JerseysCheap Belgium Soccer JerseysBrazil Jerseys From ChinaGermany Jerseys From ChinaAuthentic Soccer Mexico JerseysCheap Portugal Soccer JerseysWholesale Spain JerseysCheap France Football JerseysCheap Germany Jerseys AuthenticCheap Mexico Jerseys AuthenticWholesale Colombia JerseysCheap Belgium Football JerseysWholesale Argentina JerseysCheap USA Soccer Jerseys Chinacheap uswnt jersey authenticAuthentic AC Milan JerseysDiscount Arsenal JerseysWholesale A.S.
